Univa Essentials Self care plan for carers & families

Univa Essentials is uniquely designed for carers supporting a loved one with anorexia nervosa (or experiencing restrictive eating patterns and related symptoms) and for families using the plan together. It includes tailored tools to build skills, understanding, confidence, and momentum in the support role, anytime, anywhere.

Available for carers on their own, or as a family plan for carers and their loved one with an eating disorder.
Please note: this plan is not intended for individuals with eating difficulties to use independently.

care

The self-care plan is available for carers and individuals with an eating disorder who are aged 13 and over. For children under 13, support is delivered through the carer’s self-guided plan to ensure age-appropriate care and guidance.

Our structured digital modules are co-designed by clinical experts and people with lived experience. They draw on proven approaches such as Family Therapy, CBT-ED (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Eating Disorders), and the New Maudsley Model for Carers. Each module includes practical tools - like guided reflections, behaviour change strategies, and skills-based exercises - to help you or your loved one make meaningful progress in recovery.

With the Family Pack, carers and their loved one (aged 13 or over) each have their own personalised app experience - designed to work in sync. While personal data remains private, carers receive gentle updates on their loved one’s engagement and progress, helping them stay informed, involved, and supportive without overstepping.

Stay in tune with how you’re doing using simple daily and weekly check-ins - like mood and behaviour trackers and optional food diaries. Univa helps you notice what’s working, identify triggers, and catch early warning signs so you can stay on track.

Get round-the-clock answers to common questions from Univa’s virtual avatar team trained with extensive knowledge of eating disorders. Whether you’re looking for guidance, reassurance, or practical tips, support is available anytime, right from the app.

£39/month for individuals

£49/month for families

The Family Pack includes self-care programmes for both carer and loved one with the eating disorder, helping you move forward together.

care

Receive compassionate, evidence-based care in 50-minute online sessions with a specialist psychologist. Sessions are adapted to your needs, whether you’re attending individually or as a family.

Your first session focuses on understanding your goals, challenges, and support needs. This structured assessment and formulation helps shape a personalised plan for your recovery or caregiving journey.

Following the assessment, your clinician will recommend a tailored care plan, including the ideal session frequency and focus areas based on your unique circumstances.

Your therapy plan works hand-in-hand with the Univa self-care app. Clinicians may assign digital modules between sessions and can monitor your progress in the app to guide your care in real time.

Book sessions at times that work for you. All appointments are virtual, so you can access expert care from the comfort and privacy of home.

By combining live clinical support with structured app tools, Univa helps you maintain progress, reinforce learning, and stay connected between appointments.

Frequently Asked Questions

You can start right away. Once you subscribe, you’ll get immediate access to the Univa app and your personalised care plan. If you’ve chosen a plan with video sessions or chat support, we’ll guide you through your next steps as soon as you’re onboarded.

To ensure you are safely able to use Univa, we need to understand your eating disorder symptoms. We’ll ask you about your current weight and recent weight loss patterns and understand other risk factors. If you have a primary diagnosis of OCD, psychotic Disorder, Bi-Polar Disorder, drug/alcohol misuse or a diagnosis of diabetes you will not be suitable for Univa care plans. If your primary eating diagnosis is Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder or ARFID we currently do not support these conditions, but we are planning too soon.
Is the care plan from the needs-based assessment personalised to my situation? Yes. Your care plan is built around evidence-based approaches to address your specific stage and needs - whether you’re just starting to seek help, managing ongoing recovery, or supporting a loved one.

The care plans include short, engaging digital modules, tools for managing difficult thoughts or behaviours, guided reflections, interactive check-ins, and personalised strategies. Everything is grounded in evidence-based approaches like CBT-ED (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Eating Disorders) and Family Therapy.

Online therapy provides access to expert eating disorder healthcare professionals through secure video sessions. The Univa app lets you book and join therapy sessions directly, so support is always just a tap away, wherever you feel most comfortable.

Univa includes a dedicated carer support plan with tools to help carers understand eating disorders, support loved ones without judgement, and protect their own wellbeing. It’s designed to empower carers, not overwhelm them.

Univa includes a dedicated carer support plan with tools to help carers understand eating disorders, support loved ones without judgement, and protect their own wellbeing. It’s designed to empower carers, not overwhelm them.

Absolutely. If you choose a plan with clinical support, you’ll be matched with a qualified clinician for video sessions or text chat, depending on the plan. We’re here to listen, guide, and walk with you.

Univa is designed to complement your existing care. Some people use it while on NHS waiting lists. Others use it between appointments or alongside private therapy. Our clinicians are trained to work around your wider support network. We recommend you speak with your NHS clinician or private clinician about using one of the Univa services alongside the work they are doing with you.

That’s okay and it’s common. Recovery is not linear. Our care plans help track your progress and adapt accordingly. If you’re stuck, your clinician (if you’re on a plan with support) will help you reset goals or explore what’s getting in the way.
What’s included in the unlimited text chat option? With this plan, you can message the Univa care team anytime during the week. The Univa care team will reply to your message within a day or two, five days per week. You’ll receive thoughtful, supportive responses that guide you forward. It’s not crisis support, but it is warm, clinical input when you need it most.

Your first session is a comprehensive assessment with an eating disorder expert clinical psychologist. They’ll get to know your situation and needs, so they can help shape the best support plan for you and/or your loved one.

Everything you share in the app stays confidential. Your personal entries and data are never shared - unless there is a serious concern for your safety identified in conversation with our clinical team, in which case a qualified professional or your carer may be informed to ensure you get the right support.

That’s easy. You can upgrade or adjust your plan anytime as your needs change. For example, you might start with the app-only plan and later add video sessions or chat support if you want more guidance.

Yes. You can use Univa to get support while waiting for formal treatment. The app-only family plan helps build momentum in recovery so that you’re better prepared when services do become available. The clinical support plans can be an alternative to waiting for NHS support to become available.

Yes. The app-only family plan is a gentle, non-judgemental way to start engaging with recovery. You can take things at your own pace, build insight, and explore support without needing to talk to anyone before you’re ready. Please note: the Univa Essentials and Univa Comfort self-care plans are not intended for individuals with eating difficulties to use independently, a carer needs to be involved.

Univa is built specifically for eating disorders, with deep clinical expertise and lived experience behind the design. It’s not generic. It’s not just about content. It’s about helping you or your loved one feel seen, supported, and actively moving forward.
